Very much to our regret, the EDC Management has to announce the cancellation of the EDC2012 due to an unexpected low number of registrations to the conference caused by the financial crisis. This would not warrant the effort of so many speakers and other contributors to prepare their presentations and travel to Prague. Nevertheless, we would like to express our gratefulness to everyone who was willing to support the EDC2012 as speaker, chairperson, moderator, participant or sponsor. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation of the conference. For further information please email the conference office at defenceconference@eventlab.org. |

Co-organiser of the European Defence Conference Dr. Merle Missoweit of Fraunhofer INT recently published an article on Long-term strategic partnerships in defence in " The European, Security and Defence Union" magazine. This magazine independently reviews issues on European Security & Defence and won the European Award 2011 for Citizenship, Security and Defence. The article describes the urgent need for Smart Defence and Pooling & Sharing as expressed by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen " our choice is between Smart Defence and Less Defence. […]". It particularly elaborates on the difficulty to implement those approaches caused by the perceived loss of sovereignty and freedom of decision. These issues will be discussed in debate session 1-1 with the same title of the EDC2012. Download the article below. |

Research departments should better focus on market needs. At the same time R&D should not be state-of-the-art engineering. This contradiction is the issue at hand in the workshop “Matching R&D with Business Needs”. During this parallel workshop insights will be provided how to set sail for R&D breakthroughs that are at the same time first class business opportunities. For more information on this parallel workshop see the workshop description where you can also download the flyer. |
